Just read most of the Stob family story, very fascinating how he remembered names and places. The way he described his homes and other places was amazing, I could picture in my mind what they looked like. It was almost like being there!

I think shekaago is on to something, according to the article the Illinois Medical District can claim eminent domain up to the tracks. from the article: "In early November the medical district held a public meeting where it announced its "master plan" for future changes in the area. These included a proposed "district development area" that would run from Roosevelt to t

WOW! When my aunt and uncle lived on 19th st back in the 70's I remember that neighborhood! I remember it being kind of run down, but wow, it's all gone now. What I find odd is there are parking meters on the deserted streets! (at least they where there when Google did street view) Does any one really park there? Maybe for the hospitals?

It's a shame that buildings like this go into disuse. But, like you said if the neighborhood changes, a lot of these great buildings go through this. I especially like the 1924 photo, it shows how it looks before the Kennedy. I love seeing photos like this, to be able to see what a place looked like before a major change. I think you're right, the building in the back ground. It looks like a schoo

bowler, what you do is hit the Flickr button (blue/red dot) where you type in your posts. the first time you do it, it will ask if you want to authorize the module to access your flickr account. There is a link, the word "authorize" next to step 1 click the word and it will take you to flickr to sign in. once you sign in it will give you a code, put that code in the box under step 2.

Man, that is so frustrating! All that history just gone! It's such a shame all those documents just disappearing. Well I'll end my rant now, LOL. Good luck on your family genealogy project.

Now if we could find pics of the tracks when they were still in use north of Belmont, or at the Dunning hospital. That would be the final piece of the puzzle!

It's possible it may be a pole the car dealership used to hang those muti-color triangle flags from. I seem to remember some other Western dealerships back in the day had those poles in the sidewalk further south.

We have Borden in Louisiana, they don't sell it in Chicago anymore? The more I look at this house the more I am fascinated. I looked it up on city news Chicago http://www.newschicago.org/index.php?menu=chicago&search=single_chicago&search_by=pin&area=17&sc=31&block=109&parcel=25&Find=Find+Property%21 and it looks like that place was built in 1904, so this family built it or purchased it when it was 6 years old. Very cool! One thing I fi

I like old railroad ghost stories, a lot of them seem to be "ghost lights" the Paulding light comes to mind, and a mystery light seen on a abandoned railroad between Houston and Galvaston TX. It's seems like a lot of beheaded train men are "looking" for their heads.

I remember a gas brand that was named Oklahoma or OK, for a while they gave you a Drinking glass with a fill up. The glass had a oil rig on it with OK-Oklahoma under it, we has several of them as my dad filled up there every week. I want to say the gas station was on Irving Park or Montrose between California up to Western, I Just don't remember where!

Bruce, I have a question. The MSD police, are they like railroad police that patrol their property? And have full police powers, and why were they involved in the fake resurrection Mary "case"? Was he trespassing on their property? Just wondering as I had never heard of them, I tried Google but I didn't find much, thanks.

The strange thing is someone mowed the front yard, but not the rear. Never got set on fire, but in early 85 a family moved in. I looked in google street view and today it looks like it was completely gutted and remodeled they did a very nice job.
