Boy that brings back memories, my dad had a 72 just like that but it was yellow. I wish I could have kept that car.

A friend of my dad worked at this factory back in the 70's and us kids would love when he came over to visit, he always had shopping bags full of cookies. and not just the butter ones. It's a shame though that these beautiful art deco can't be converted to another use, but I guess they all can't be saved since some are in crappy areas or are to far gone to save.

I remember this railroad very well, I lived near Horner Park. Some time in 79 or 80 was the last time I saw a train crossing California, it was a diesel loco with a single flat car with some type of large piece of equipment, I remember my dad was driving north bound on California and stopped because a flagman was standing on the track. I asked him what he was doing, and he said a train was coming

Don't know anything about the golf course, but I also heard that Horner Park to the Northwest of the area your taking about. Was also a clay pit and brick making area, and latter a garbage dump before they turned it to the park. There is a thread on here that mentions the golf course, but I believe someone said it was a driving range? If I can find it again I will post the link.

I'm no electrician, but I did work as a electrician helper out of high school and as they say electricity takes the path of least resistance. Sound plausible to me, makes sense.

If I'm reading this correctly the DuPage and Kane county officials did not support attempts to convince the state legislature to subsidize it. supposedly these efforts were intertwined with trying to save the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin interurban. , from the Trolley Dodger; "The CTA rapid transit system had contracted about 25% by the mid-1950s, and wanted to extend service through the

There are several on the north side of the 1300 block of W 19th st. My uncle lived across the street, and a good friend of my uncle and dad lived in one of these alley buildings with his family. I got to sleep in it, one day when my dad had a few too many drinks to drive all the way back to the north side, and my dad's friend and his wife convinced him to stay in their spare bed room. to get to th

According to Google maps there is a small stub of the road left that leads to a parking lot, and indeed named Bachelors Grove Rd (at least according to Google) <iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d745.5276504618428!2d-87.78624869999997!3d41.6317407!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x880e3e97f3fed79d%3A0xfa8b3cec6a59d30!2sBachelor+Grove+Rd%2

Correct me if I'm wrong but I grew up near Horner park and I seem to remember the old (what seemed to be abandoned) boat houses as late as the mid to late 70's in the exact spot you're talking about. Then one day they were gone, I all ways wondered who would live in such deplorable conditions.

Yea, I don't think you'll get official permission. Urban explorers just do it covertly, that's the way we did it.
