Cool pics, are you honestly going in there? The 4719 home can still be seen on Google street view. Like I said this part of town always fascinated me, East Garfield Park, North Lawndale. We used to drive down California to get to Brighton Park.

I recall several months ago a story on WGN or WBBM about a dead body found in or around the abandoned GF Structures building on the corner of S Kilpatrick and W Arthington. I think this is the extreme northwest corner of N Lawndale, if you get a chance please post your pictures. I have always found this area very interesting, just be care full out there.

I remember reading there was a Turn Style in the Dixie Square mall in Harvey, the mall chase for the Blues Brothers was filmed there.

your welcome, we rode the Montrose bus from our Irving Park home to the bus turn a round at Broadway then walk to our doctors office near Wilson. I remember my mom being a little nervous of the street people, but they never bothered us. My dad how ever did get mugged on Sheridan near that store we shopped at. The picture "Uptown lady" looks like the store we shopped at, it had a pole by

Brings back memories of when I was a kid, our doctors office was on Broadway at Wilson. My parents shoped at a store on Sheridan, my dad often parked the car on a side street near a alley with rats the size of cats! These pictures are exactly as I remember it. http://bobrehak.com/wordpress/portfolio-2/documentary/

Is this the same warehouse that used to have a giant Jim Beam advertisement painted on the side facing California, so drivers on the Stevenson going east bound could see it? Around Christmas time it had something to do with jingle bells (JB=Jim Beam/jingle bells). I remember seeing it back in the early to mid 80's, every time we went to my uncle's place in Brighton Park.

I was spending a week at my cousin's house, and my aunt and uncle worked at Merchandise Mart. while they worked we would roam the mart. We where playing in the elevators and Ron Majors got in, we just looked at him and he smiled at us. Latter in the day as we got off an elevator Jane Byrne got in with her entourage.

Nice piece, I enjoyed that. Love your picture Wardell, looks like the Strand Hotel is one of the few buildings that's still standing. http://maps.google.com/?ll=41.780177,-87.605925&spn=0.008961,0.013797&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=41.780277,-87.605916&panoid=638qmW51-jfuttbp3CL9UQ&cbp=12,180.81,,0,8.46

Wow, CE thank you so much for the detailed information. I did not realize that a part of the embankment between 41st and 42 nd had been removed. I knew about the section between Drexel and Cottage Grove, it's funny or lucky that back in the day we did so much exploring that not once we where stopped or questioned by the police. But now, post 9/11 especially on active railroads I'm sure it's
