Boy, I had forgotten about the butterscotch smell! I remember the ice rink, went there some times, but never learned how to skate. I also remember the pool spent many hot summer days there. I also went to GT in the early 80's but just my freshmen year, then transferred to Roosevelt.

I remember the 55 gallon drums, our building had a row of 7-8 of them. Then in the late 70's the landlord had to get a "rolling" dumpster from a company called "City Waste" which I think latter on, it became Waste management.

Very nice pictures! When I was a kid my friend and I used to explore the factories behind the WGN studios. Outside of course, because they where still in use back in the 80's. To bad bwalsh you did not take pictures of the J & J that would have been cool to see.

I was looking in google maps and the pitchers mound is almost right where the streets crossed. Very, very cool! It looks like Weed St ended at Ogden or at N. Larrabee St.

That is so cool! I walked in front of that building so many times when my aunt and uncle lived on the South side of w 19th between s Troop and s Loomis. So was that a cigar store? One night when we walked by, the door was open, they had a boxing ring set up in the middle of the floor. Two guys where in the ring, I guess it was some kind of boxing training school? That had to have been some time in

I was pretty sure this was Pilsen, but not sure where in Pilsen. When Berwyn Frank offered to purchase the photo I knew it! I thought it might be this building at W 19th and S Troop <iframe width="562" height="314" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&layer=c

I've noticed that there are no good modern day cop shows filmed in Chicago. (at least none I can think of). One thing I dislike on the few movies and shows that are filmed there, is that most of the time they use "Metro Police" in place of Chicago Police. This from wikipedia I guess explains why: * The 1957-1960 television series M Squad centered around a squad of Chicago Police

There was a Butera on the South east corner of W. Montrose and N. Kedzie. It was a National first then a A&P and finally a Butera. A few blocks south on Kedzie there was a Jewel and a Osco back to back.

Wow! Thanks for the pics Artista, looks like they did a nice job. Did they remove the beam over the door? Or was that a different door?

It would be awesome if the Holmes Castle was still around, I'd would have loved to have seen that crazy floor plan that was rumored that building had on the upper floors! Artista, I never knew that a movie was planed. that would make a good horror flick.

I got my book last Wednesday, I could not put it down! Berwyn Frank thank you so much for all those wonderful photos! It's almost like I could step into them and walk down those planked sidewalks, go into the shops, be in those homes! I know it sounds silly, but that's the feeling I got, it's almost like being there. I did learn a bunch of things I did not know, for example, that Anton Cermak

Thanks for the ghost sign pictures, when we were kids my sister, brother and I would look for them while riding around in the back seat of my dad's car. It was like a game we would see who found the most.

I was watching WGN and saw the story of the lady that got murdered in her own apartment on S Sacramento a few weeks ago, so sad. We used to pass right in front of her building back in the 80's on our way to Brighton Park to visit my aunt and uncle.
