The building has been around since about 1914. It was a grocery store in 1928. Check the Historical Society for that area. Per EveryBlock, This bar was shut down by the city with 70 building violations. This after a shooting of 3 people that were at the bar in Sept 2013.

I can remember making Green Rivers at the drug store soda fountain in those paper cups with the metal bases! We would have to pump the Green River syrup in the cups and add the water. We also made Green River shakes back then as well!

The building that housed the Panang Restaurant was built around 1901. This building was the former Palace Hotel. Interesting to know that in it's early years it was a building with a strong musical connection. Also at one point the 6 story building had an 8 story clock tower.

I can remember that hotdog stand on Long and Addison. Sometime after 2011 it was torn down. You can still see a picture of it on Google Street View from 20011. There use to be a hotdog trailer on Wilson Ave., right under the Brown Line El Tracks. A guy I went to high school with worked there and eventually bought it. Everybody from Ravenswood Hospital use to go there.

I use to stop at Sammy's for hotdogs when it was on the corner of Long Ave. and Irving Park Road, when it was in the trailer on the gas station property. (it is a Enterprise Car rental now) This was around 1973. Then they moved to Central and Irving where the Little Caesars is now.

Turn Style was a chain of discount department stores and was a division of Chicago-based Jewel, the parent company of the Jewel Food Stores supermarket chain. Some mid-western Turn Styles had an Osco Pharmacy, at the time very uncommon for a discount store in the 1960s and 1970s. At its peak, the chain comprised more than fifty stores throughout Chicago.

@Cragin, Johnny's was next to the Standard Oil gas station on the west side of the street. I remember the gas station sold out to C Davis Rental and became the location to get your trailer hitch installed. I know that the owner of Toot's Drive Thru just south Johnny's was also shot and killed sometime around mid 1980's.

I can remember collecting bottles for refunds in the mid 1960's. You could buy a 16oz. RC and a package of Suzie Q's for 27 cents. It was hard to return the Old Dutch soda pop bottles because not many stores sold it. I can remember also collecting Hi-C bottles as well.

Whatever this building was or going to be is a mystery to me. I didn't find anything on this building. Nothing under historic buildings, nothing in the Chicago Tribune archives or even on Google. Does the Polk Directory show addresses on the number streets?

I agree with you Dunning1. My Dad and I would make a day of it. You always knew when the ships were unloading barrels of olives. You could smell it in the air. Remember Rocky's Fish House?

No Dunning1, it is the Standard Oil Co. building at 2223-2225 W. 13th St. It is etched in limestone above the door. Check out the Google view.

I was on that water breaker as well back in the mid 1960's. Bob did you ever go up on the observation walk along Navy Pier? It was above the warehouse, the length of the pier.

They were still there in August of 2013 on Natchez. There was a Jefferson Ice building and vending machines around 1362 East Oakton Ave. Des Plaines, until a few years back.

@WayOut, I ran this question by J.R. Schmidt of Chicago History Today and he said the only "Garbo" he heard of in Chicago was, Garbo Productions Address: 1949 W Eddy St, Chicago, IL 60657 http://www.garboproductions.com/ They have been around for about 25 years only. The website I contacted, "Ann Perri Tribute" never got back to me. I figured that no one monitors

Some nice pictures WayOut! I came accross a "Ann Perri Tribute" site and a "A Tribute to "The Jane Russell of Burlesque". Some of the pictures of her photographed at "Garbo Chicago" were taken around 1950's I believe. Caution, some pictures are NSFW. I also checking some other sites and if I hear anything I will post it.
