There was over 200 bowling alleys in Chicago at one time. Not including the Suburbs! I bowled at most of those above. Now it is easier to list which ones are left.

The high pressure sodium-vapor lighting takes less electric to run them as well as being brighter than the mercury vapor lights. I can remember installing these were I worked in the late 1970's. Remember when Carl did the US 30 Dragstrip commercials in the 1970's? "Where the great ones, run"! He spoke a word a second! He also won the "Beat the Champs" bowling tournament around 1993 at Habetler Bowl.

I can remember the Town & Country as well. They had one on North Av. and the Kennedy. It turned into a Blockbuster but I am not sure of what it now!

The Thirsty Whale was on River Road and Grand Ave. back in the mid 1980's when I use to go. It is now an Amoco gas station and McDonald’s. One of the Buckingham's father worked with my Mom at VS-Grinding on Damen and Balmoral Ave. here in Chicago. This would have been around 1966. I bowled with Carl Bonafede who was the band's manager at the time.

@Hugh, I just saw some photo's of Old Town. I will try to remember where I saw them. I use to hang out a little at the Plugged Nickel back in the mid 70's. Great times back then.

Engine Company 59, Truck 47 at 5714 N. Ridge Ave. built in 1928 closed a few years back. This was sold and being renovated. There was one fire house at Ashland Ave. (5400 North) Balmoral Ave. that closed a while back. It is the Edgewater Historical Society now!

Hugh that one is gone now. The property became part of the school park. I believe that one also became a Duke's Drive In. I was a Amundsen Viking! You have to remember Carson's Ribs accross the street?

Exit at 1315 West North Avenue has been a bar since the mid 1960's that I know of. Since the building was built 1896, I am not sure what it was before. It was the Pine Inn in the mid 1960's. My father own it along my aunt. I think they owned in the mid to late 1950's but I can't be sure. I can remember going there with my Dad on Saturdays when he worked, and I was playing in the neighborhood. Acc

The last time I was there was for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. ambrosemario, I read that it only held 9,000 seats. Also the Chicago Bulls played there there first year in the NBA, 66-67.

Davey, the old parking lot for Edgewater Hospital on Rosehill Drive has town homes on them now. I believe some new homes are going up on the main site, the parking garage. They couldn't salvage the parking structure?
