Does anyone remember LaScales Pizza and Resturant that was on Higgins Ave. just east of Harlem Ave.? Next to the bar on the corner. Then they moved to a new location on Harlem Ave. about 6600 North Harlem, in the late 1990's. John was the owner and ran the place with his wife. They closed up now and I was just wondering what ever happen to them. I knew John but lost touch with him when I moved out

You can post a note in Dr. Jakes Bowling History blog. Some one might know more about it. They also have a list with pictures of bowling alleys around Chicago as well. I can't recall one there but that was a little before my time. http://bowlinghistory.wordpress.com/

From what I can remember Tom yes! In the mid 1990's The CTA was going changes tring to pick up more passengers. I use to ride the train back then and the A-B trains were sure a pain. Where I went downtown, my stops were all A-B stops so that didn't bother all to much.

My father worked for Signe Carlson Bakery on Foster Avenue after WWII and then Burney Bros. on Chicago Avenue from 1965 to when they closed. He worked at Thompson's Bakery in Norridge as well for 2 years just to get his 31 years in the union. Nothing like having fresh bread and cakes in the house as well.

I recall bridle paths along the lake as far north as Foster Avenue back in the early 1970's. Is this correct?

I grew up around the city, starting in Logan Square in the 60's and going to the Congress Theater. I also lived in Edgewater and the Dunning area as well. I went to the Patio a few times as well.

Tom, Please bear with me while I try to explain this! This why the CTA changed A-B trains. If I remember correctly, when they built the Logan Square subway station, they had two train stops there. The CTA use to use the system of A or B trains. Some stops were A stops, some were B stops, Then they had A-B stops were both trains would stop at these stations. Logan Square subway was a A-B s

@fleurblue, I can't picture where Damen and Elk Grove meet. Can it be at Damen and North Avenue? I remember Cock Robins Ice Cream shops having the square scoops. I use to hang out at the Burger King on Milwaukee and Honore in the 70's. Then I use to go to the Holiday Club in the late 90's.

I use to go to Martino's all the time back in the mid 1980's. They had great pizza. Did anyone ever goes to MYIII's (My Pie's) Pizza on Sheridan Road just across from Loyola? This would be in the 1970's. They use to brag about there fabulous sound system there with the Bose 901 Speakers. @fleurblue, I remember when Father & Son was next to the Logan Square CTA terminal building before t

They also had a Gulliver's in Niles on Milwaukee, north of Dempster on the west side of the street in the late 80's. They sold the property to some furniture store.

Does anyone recall a bar on North Ave, just west of the river named the Pinewood? It was on the south side of the street. Could have it been at 1315 West North Avenue?

@ Zorchvalve, Yes I can remember that fog horn now that you mention it. @ Jak378, I was thinking that it was the breakwater at Montrose Harbor. I remember some old military area there in 1973, or what was left because it had closed already and would park there and go walking around. I have to ask my brother because he use to go fishing off that pier.

I remember when Navy Pier was used for shipping in the 1960's. My Dad would take me down to the pier and we would go up on the observation deck and walk the length of the pier and watch the ships load and unload cargo. If I remember right, The Chicago Fire Department had there gym across the street from the pier. I have an old picture of the pier from Forgotten Chicago. It also shows the old Lake

I was in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in the 1960's. My troop was out of St. Sylvester's Parish in Chicago. The number of the troop was 3061 for Cub Scouts and Troop 61 for the Boy Scouts. In the Boy Scouts we went camping every month, rain or shine, warm or cold. Our Boy Scout leader was a US Marine Reservist. I remember camping at Fort Dearborn, Yorkville, Camp Owassippe, White Pines State Park

@Dunning1, I remember that building. That restaurant was open when I lived in the neighborhood around 1970. I lived on Berenice just a few houses to the east. Wasn't the place called Rock's or something like that? I remember I ate in there once.

At Loyola, where Halas Hall (next to the CTA tracks on the west side of campus) is at, was where the bleachers were, when Loyola had a football team. That whole campus changed so much in the last ten years. They even tore down the Alumi Gym a year ago.

If you click on the Google air view you can follow that bike path, The Sauganash Trail, 60646 south through the woods from Bryn Mawr, over the Edens Expreesway and hook up with the main line around Montrose and Cicero. The tracks are gone but the viaducts are still there along with the right of way property. From what I understand this bike path was suppose to run north to Valley Line Trail. I

Liberty Savings is on Milwaukee Avenue at Fullertion. Two other locations are on Lincoln Avenue in Lincolnwood and Foster and Harlem in Chicago. I got my first home loan from them in the early 1990's.

I think if I found it right, Music Werks was base out of Seattle, Washington. If really didn't say much about them that they closed up. Due to online music. The picture was of their sign I think and it had to do with some old picture thread someone posted here in Forgotten Chicago. If I come across it again I will let you know. I have been there I know, but that was years and years ago. 1975 I

Getting back to dog tracks for lursa1967, I can see the track I believe on the historicaerials website in the year 1939. It is just northeast of the old O'Hare Raxce Track found by Adgorn above here. I don't know anything about dog tracks but this track looks pretty big to me compared to the O'Hare Race Track which is only a 1/4 mile oval.

WayOut, You are correct on the Japanese restaurant and motel across the street. I can't remember the name as well. Could it have been a Japanese motel as well? That has to be O'Hare Stadium from what I read about the track. O' Hare Stadium, Chicago, Ill. - 1/4 mile paved oval. Opened in 1956 and torn down in 1968. NASCAR star Fred Lorenzen was track champion in 1958. The site is now
