Talking about Ice companies. Growing up in the 40's 50's there were still homes that had actual ice boxes not refrigerators. I remember the ice man would grab a block of ice with his tongs and carry it into the homes or especially taverns. My aunt Kate owned Town Club tavern on 50th & Oalkley. There was an Ice House on 51st and Levit or Hoyne that we would stop by on a hot summer day and ma

I lived on 50th & Oakley and would jump a box car and ride it down to 47th street and walk over to the " Joe Megans Back of the Yards Free Fair" in the 50's. We would call out chalk just like Chuck. My brother and I went to St Michaels and every morning on the way to school we would have to run to get under the viduct before the "Midnight Flyer" would pass so we would

When was Meigs Field torn down or is it still there and not in use. I left Chicago in 1991, however, growing up we would go down to Grant Park and/or the museums and always took the opportunity to watch the pipper cubs take off at Meigs.

The South side had many nice parks with pools like Gage Park was the best, Cornell was good, however, they had a rough bottom to their pool, Sherman Park was ok and McKinley was good. But we were all tough guys who didn't mind cutting our feet just to cool off. LOL

Back to the saga. I still owned my 1973 Mark IV when I bought a used 1974 Rusty Red with a white racing stripe down the middle. It was an automatic but fun to drive.

Albums are making a come back at all the record shops, book/record stores. I have an old 45rpm Wurlitzer from the 60's that loads 100 records and I probably have 300 back up records from the 40's through the 80's. We bought this old box at a juke box place at 55th & Lawndale or Avers. My wife and I love to jitterbug we are still lost in the 50's so to speak. I did some electrical work on it an

I worked at American Can on Western Ave for 38 years and made many coffee cans, however, Hixon's doesn't come to mind. Could be another can company. Look at the side seam area see if there is a logo like "CANCO"or three c's stacked over each other for Continental Can Co.or NAT"L CAN, FRUEUD CAN ETC.

Talking about Wrigley Field being one of the great old parks there was a triple AAA ball club down in Evansville Indiana called the Otters and they play at an old field called Bosse Field. It was smaller than Wrigley Field, however, it was setup almost the same. You may have seen it when in 1992 they filmed the movie "A league of their own" a 1943 womans team. The cast included Tom Hanks
