Forgot to mention that the organ for the new church was the one used at the Medinah Temple that was located at Wabash and Ohio, now a Bloomingdale's.

Last year a project got underway to build a new church, St Raphael the Archangel in Lake County, from the exterior of St. John of God, a south side (Back of the Yards) Chicago church that had closed its doors awhile ago. The interior of the new church is coming from another shuttered Chicago church, St. Peter of Canisius. Chicago locations: St John of God 1238 W. 52nd St. St Pe

Link to a set of photos detailing the source of the East Fork (aka Skokie River) of the Chicago River: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/sets/72157626484647373/detail/ This was much easier to find than the source of the Middle Fork.

Last group of 11 photos taken today. Total in set: 41 See today's after the Serenity park sign. Here's the link again: http://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/sets/72157629643259993/ Found two small creeks on the west side of O'Plaine Road that fed toward Serenity Park. I suspect the combination of these small creeks along with water from the surrounding wetlands contribute to form the Mid

12 new photos taken today; click on Flickr link above. Very close to the headwaters of the Middle Fork, a few miles NW of the previous photo location. After 2 days of rain the water was really flowing in the area. Noticed a few people outside as I was driving by and I asked if the "creek" was ever dry. They said yes and that it had been until the recent rains. They told me about a

I think I found a source of the middle fork of the Chicago River's north branch today. There are probably others. This source is on Abbott Laboratories property (where I work) just south of Rt 137, east of the I94 ramp. It's a swampy area which spawns a pretty good flowing creek that makes its way west under the Milwaukee Road RR tracks (where the Amtrak Hiawatha travels to/from Chicago and M

I think it was named Lurie Brothers. Grew up a few blocks away. Attended BA and walked by 26th and Central Park every school day.

If you live in the 'burbs, you can get CPL card. I showed them my 'burb card and got a CPL card on the spot. I learned this from Mr. Bowler who often visits here. I can get to the Trib's Archive and others from my local (not CPL) library.

If I remember correctly, the stations were "L" stations, part of the Stock Yard branch. http://www.chicago-l.org/operations/lines/stockyards.html The above mentions that the Morris stop was renamed to Racine. No explanation given of why the change, but a company by the name of Nelson Morris was mentioned further on in the article. It merged with Armour in 1923. http://encycl

We saw the Edelweiss ghost sign while on a FC walk earlier this year. The building, at least the front section, did not look occupied.
