Many thanks for the replies. When I wandered past this car last year, I saw a guy working on the grounds of the building and asked him about it. He mentioned a name, which I don't think was Darrin and I said thanks. I don't ever recall seeing one of these before that day. Thanks again.

This car was photographed in the driveway of the Ransom Cable house, which is a Chicago landmark building, on Erie and Wabash. What is this car's brand name? I don't remember. Hint: it is VERY unique, so forget Studebaker, etc. http://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/5871080825/in/set-72157626923342115

Fantastic FC tour yesterday, highlighted by a tour of the only pinball manufacturing company in the world. http://www.flickr.com/photos/k9jdk/sets/72157631261418366/detail/ I had a (pin) ball on this tour. See links on flickr photos above for more information.

Frankie - you do know that all UPPER CASE means you're shouting, which I don't think was your intention.

California (Cal) and the Atlantic. Both on 26th street; Cal on Trumbull and the Atlantic about a block or so east of Pulaski. The Cal showed "monster" movies on Saturday, so it filled with kids throwing anything they could get their hands on - candy (the black Chuckle was a favorite as were Jujubes), flattened popcorn boxes, etc. Cracker balls against the walls looked cool in the da

The Cuneo property in Vernon Hills is now part of Loyola University. The family donated the land a few years ago. Not sure if all the land was donated or not, but the mansion was part of the donation. http://www.artknowledgenews.com/2009-12-08-00-14-25-loyola-university-chicago-gifted-a-historic-50-million-from-john-and-herta-cuneo.html I seem to recall reading that the Cuneo Press bus

My fraternal Grandparents lived (and Grandpa worked) close to the yards. The odor was, shall we say, unforgettable. But some would say it was the smell of money.

A tid-bit. Have a friend who volunteered to work on a Saturday helping to collect old paint for proper disposal. All day long people stopped by and poured their unused paint into large collection barrels. At the end of the day the crew wondered what color would appear after stirring one of the barrels filled with many many different colors of paint. The result: grey

New photos (34) added today. Start on page 8 of the set. I met the pastor and business manager of the parish today. Spent about an hour with the manager learning a lot about the project and the parish's current location, which is a farm on Rt 173 a bit east of Rt 45, a few miles from the "new" church. Saint Rita, Quigley and Barat College are all part of this very interesting story

OK davem60612 here are your first and second questions: How busy is BRC Clearing compared to say 30 years ago? How much has the decline in the Clearing Industrial District affected BRC? TIA Dave...

Very interesting article on the history of what is now known as Ford City and the home of Tootsie Roll. http://www.allpar.com/corporate/factories/chicago.html One tid-bit from the CRHS and FC tour last Sunday - it was the largest building in the world covering 82 acres.

We lived on 24th and St. Louis back in the 50s and for the life of me, I don't remember a school on 25th and Homan and it was just a few blocks away. Everyone we knew back then either attended Blessed Agnes (27th and Central Park) or Burns Elementary (25th and Cental Park). I saw the building in Frank's link and drew a blank. Also can't imagine a car dealer on a side street (Homan) as Frank m
