51st & ashland about 5116 ashland.There was a food store on the south east corner of 51st & damen and an A&P a few doors east of Damen on the south side of 51st st street.

I think the Kroger store was a 51st & Ashland. They used to have a niehborhood picknic once a year at a grove in summertime. I won a pound of bacon there.

There was a bank and could still be there but it was in the 70's There was a drug store on n/e corner brabecks dept store on s/w corner a food store on the s/e corner and minoso's ice cream parlor on the n/w corner.

Thanks for the information. I am interested in the tunnel I saw just after going down in the subway around 14th. This was in the 40's & 50's. It went east. A friend of mine went into that tunnel and said he saw rats as large as cats. A long time ago but wonder what it was and is it still there.

I thought so but wasn't sure. A short time going into the subway there was a tunnel going east and could be seen through the window of the train. I always wondered what it was for.

remember 47th & ashland stores? Three dime sores on the east side. Kresge, wolwort & I forget the third one but kreske became K-Mart. Thier signs above were red and gold letters.Oh Niesners.

an woods on Sundays. A lotMy mom tookus to Rainbow cones when we went to Dan Ryan Woods where ther were many Polish bands and dancing. That was in the 40's and I'm 79.

A lot of the guys from cornell came to the R & S hidaway as he named it. Do you m remember a guy that hung out with the guys at Spikes andy store @ 51st & wolcott one door west of wolcott? He said he was with the son's of italy.

Going north entering the subway there was a abandond tunnel going east. A friend of mine walked through it and said there were rats as big as cats down there. I could not find any facts about that tunnel but it did and could still exist. I SAW IT OUT THE WINDOW OF THE TRAIN. This was in the 50's.
