I remember the settlment house on McDowell. Also St Roses was on the North East corner on 48th & Ashland . That was the old church when I was a kid. Later they built the new brick on east of it and took the old one down.

We all have great memories for sure of the yards. I went trough the area lately and it's nothing like it was but the house I was born in is still there. 4930 s. Justine.

I still play the accordion at our ministry at a nursinghome for Sunday church . My wife leads the singing and then I preach. I called and thanked MRS sarna a few years ago befoe she passed for her teaching me music. I was like 13 years old at that time and took lessons for a few years. The Yards was a great place to grow up in for sure.

The bank came later. It used to be Brabecks dept store befor the bank. How about Paradise Ballroom? Gangs used to go there. It wasn't a place you would take your date. I took my accordion lessons at about 5119 s damen. Sarnas music store. Mrs Sarna passed in 2013 and was over 90 years old. I looked her up.
