I read an interview online with Lee Marvin from around the time M-Squad was being filmed and I remember him saying that they came into Chicago only twice a year to film exteriors...no permits, nothing...so with that being said, its questionable as to whether they would be able to use the interior of the Superior/Racine station

chicago Lawn, not West Lawn...right, my bad. not sure about what occupied 63rd and Homan, where the new station is located..Historic Aerials shows a sort of gas station like structure at that corner throughout the 60's and 70's..but I can't be for 100%... there is an interesting feature on this webpage on abandoned and disused Police stations that is somewhat related to this thread... als

Good call..the 9th District 35th and Lowe station exterior brick work in the CN 777 screenshot looks identical to the present view of the station, minus the mounted lighted "Police" lantern. And judging from the 1939 pix, the New City facility looks a bit older, thus not matching the CN 777 faux "New City" facility. Also, in the present view, you can see the parking lot on the

Not that this is at all related, but I couldn't help but point out that another interesting landmark in the same general vicinity (SE corner of Pershing and Western, 2323 W Pershing), now McKinley Park Lofts, was once a warehouse for the Ronco/Popeil line of products made famous on late nite TV ads in the 60's and 70's

I spent at lot of summers at the "Free Fair" as we called it. The "Free" part was actually referring to "free admission", but I always remember paying for rides, games, etc. It could possibly have been totally free at one time or another, I'm not sure. The demise of the "Free Fair" was due in large part to increased gang activity in the area, pretty m

Prior to the 80's the area was heavily Puerto Rican...gentrification in the late 70's pushed the commmunity further west toward Humboldt Park.. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/20205384@N03/5473031388/" title="Armitage and Kenmore - Lincoln Park - 1971 by captain54_01, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5017/5473031388_885221b8d4_b.jpg&q

there was Nick's on the SE corner of Halsted and Armitage...one of the best bars in the city...the Candy Store and Beaumont's down the street...Otto's, with a stuffed gorilla near the entrance (now Cafe Ba Ba re ba). An old auto supply near the NE corner of Halsted and Webster was turned into a very swank Italian eatery, "Carluccci's" that never made it. Halsted between North and A

here's a little blurb I found to maybe ease the thought of what happened here in Chicago when they built the Kennedy "In Boston, one of the country's oldest cities, almost a third of the old city was demolished—including the historic West End—to make way for a new highway, low- and moderate-income high-rises (which eventually became luxury housing), and new government and commercial bu

The fire hydrant missing on the Belmont/Narragansett pic, and the trim above the building, differing between vintage Mr.D's pic and the current Belmont/Narragansett pic are the biggest giveaways to it being Irving and Narragansett. I blew up the vintage gidorah2003 pix, and lightened it. You can see the street signs with a pretty clear "Narragansett" on one side of the post, and on t
