Calumet412 is good, but there are thousands of great photos elsewhere. LOC, IDOT and the Parker collection come to mind.

In addition to the Chicago Daily News photos, another place where many of these old Chicago photos reside is the Library of Congress. Also on line is the IDOT collection. Thousands of old Chicago photos from these two sites. And don't forget the Cushman Collection. GREAT color photos from the 1940s and 1950s. Lastly, there are sellers of Chicago news photos on Ebay. The IDOT collection has a couple photos of that intersection. Black and white of course, but very nice high resolution.

I went over to the FC group on Facebook in 2011 as this forum seemed to slip. The FC group on Facebook was actually quite good for a while. However, last year a big blow up caused several excellent researchers to leave. There were times I would spend a weekend researching cool Chicago history, not anymore. It's been on the decline since and in fact, now it's just a shell of it's former self. Ad

Wayupnorth, check the 1929 Polk directory online for a complete list of businesses by address. I have a 1957 Reverse directory, if I have a chance will check. But let me know what exact address range you would like.

The Racine police station--731 N. Racine--was the setting for Lee Marvin's 1950s M Squad TV show. I am quite sure a couple of us "discovered" it here 3 or 4 years ago. The thread is still available, a great read. I believe the show is still available on METV. Many B roll shots of Marvin driving to and from the station. Screen grabs are also in the thread I just mentioned. Additionally

This one was at Cicero and Monroe. In fact I recall the plane pointed almost directly down Monroe. There was a restaurant with a sign shaped like an airplane at about 55th and Cicero, but that restaurant was not an airplane.

West Town, in the 1957 reverse, a Kaczynski is listed at 1829 W. Huron with that MO 6-4912 phone number. Two Joseph's in the 1951 directory but not on Huron or Haddon. Richard, nothing in the 1951 phone book or 1957 reverse. It was a cursory search, LOTS of Petersons!

This group has some amazing Chicago historians who love a mystery. I like the History Detective angle....as long as you look to some of the knowledgeable people right here.

To the point of bars all over Chicago by ambrosiomario, if we look at a early classified phone books we will find hundreds if not thousands of "saloons" all across Chicago. It's amazing how it's changed.
