I wanted to add that last summer Grand ave had been worked on approx between Long ave and Laramie. During that time much of the tracks were exposed. I had to stop for a moment each time to L O O K. If only one could actually travel back in time,,just for a month or so.

Frank ,,Another great image. I grew up on Harding ave. Although our home was nearer to North ave ,its great to see Harding from such an earlier period in time. Good luck on the book,,ill be picking up my copy soon.

An update.. As i was passing by the Narragansett building this morning , Monday April 5th, i noticed that there is now a construction crew preparing to rebuild the brickwork on the Narragansett side. Glad to see that happen.

I had just stopped by this market at Gunnison and Nagle to pick up a few things only to find that they went out of business! How sad is that? I went there a few times last year. It was always enjoyable because it was very retro, like time had hardly touched it.

It use to stand on the south side of Grand ave just east of the train tracks. I went there from time to time with friends, I would guess circa 1978/1979. It no longer exists of course. Wondered if anyone else remembered this place and when exactly did it go out of business..

Johnny,, could that be the same building on North ave that i had previously inquired about? The one i was speaking of was west of Pulaski, north side of street near Kedvale. Rather big and yellow bricked. I remember seeing flyers taped on the doors from time to time advertising a young Rick Saucedo performing his 'Elvis' act. This was BEFORE Elvis died, early 70s. The one i speak of was known

The company is Lincolnwood based and so we would like to find grounds in in the northern county areas. I had recently visited the Skokie Lagoons in Glencoe and would consider that place as well. What does all think or suggest? Anything in Evanston, northern Chicago? We are open to any ideas and would appreciate any help in this matter..Thanks!!

Does anyone here remember EXACTLY what year this great dime store was engulfed in flames? I know it was a cold winter day. Im guessing somewhere between 1973 -1975 . I watched from the north side of North ave. A very sad time for the area.

I dont know if our latest interest caused this or not but on the 18th of this month of March(last Thursday)there was a construction crew that had patch repaired the Narragansett side of the building. And i do mean PATCH work. Hopefully they plan to do REAL repairs to the brick facade.

hi daveg I wanted to attend that meeting but~~a l a s~~ i had to work. I watched the video you linked. That Ralph seems like such a great guy and full of great memories it seems. I have past by his shop countless times. The HUGE vintage canoes that are stacked on top of each other on the side of the building are eye catchers. On my way to work one of these days I must stop in to say hi to Ralph.

JJ thanks so much for entering this topic!! For the longest time i had faint memories of our father taking the whole family there during the summer evenings. I was pretty young at the time but i DO remember being able to see Kiddieland from the back seat and wishing that that was on the agenda as well.(usually wasnt,,lol) My father owned a 57' Chevy at that time too. Thanks for identifying the dri

Oh my gosh Crow' I had frequented that cool site many a time and especially concerning the Tiffin but i had forgotten all about it,,lol. (senior moment????) Thanks Crow', i will use that bit of info to jog her memory a bit further. Gladys was very young when she attended (prior to the 50s) so it may have changed hands over a period of time.

Did anyone here ever go to the "Golden Ox" on Clybourn Avenue? In the late 70s-early 80s i had an uncle who would treat the entire family to a big feast there yearly. What a great American-German restaurant it was. I had tasted my first Weiss beer in a traditional Weiss glass. They had been in business for over 77 years. Sadly, another historic business landmark gone forever. The buildi

I feel the same Kitten,,I ALWAYS drive past the buildings of old and think that every one of these buildings(even the 'mundane' ones) should be historical landmarks and protected. The building that i live at currently was built in 1926,, nothing fancy about it but very special none the less!

My landlady who is now in her 80s had told me of this dance studio and as a young girl she attended. There was a dance troop as well under the supervision of a Mrs. Gertrude Avery. I am quite familiar with Tiffin being that i grew up just a few blocks away. Saturday matinees were common place of course. I had heard of this dance class before. I am posing this question for my landlady. Im sure sh
