My husband and I had our wedding reception at Zum Deutschen Eck and I'm so sad that it is now gone. A few German places like Dinkel's Bakery and the Chicago Brauhaus still exist on Lincoln Ave. Laschet's Restaurant is a nice place on Irving just west of Lincoln and Edelweiss Restaurant is located way, way, WAY out on Irving west of Harlem. Wonderful photo! My mother used to take me shopping at "6 Corners" back in the late '60s, early '70s. We used to take a break from shopping at this little pizza place that I can not, for the life of me, remember the name of. The entrance was off of Irving a few doors down from the 6 Corners intersection. There was a "U" or "S" shaped counter and customers sat on stool

I remember all those things you guys have mentioned! Last time I was shopping there (back in December) there was a nice wall display on the history of the HIP. Don't know if it is still there but it was located on the wall at one of the main-floor entry hallways at about the middle of the mall.

Oops! After re-reading your post, the tracks I think you are referring to ran down Paulina. This track was used by the L trains that ran from Logan Square to the Loop before the Dearborn Subway was built. A section of the old track now known as the "Paulina Connector" is being used again on the Pink Line.

Those overhead tracks had lead to a now-demolished, above ground Logan Square station. The present track alignment heads underground from just north of the California Blue Line station and now the Logan Square station is underground. I remember the old HIP. It was all outdoors and there was parking on the roof! My doctor's office was located at the Walgreens end of the plaza. My girlfriend worked as a waitress at Walgreens when they had a coffee shop sort of restaurant inside.
