Anybody old enough to remember the riding stable on 86th & Damen? He had his horses in a garage and you would ride trough the alley to the Dan Ryan forest preserve just west of the horse stable. Also Lucky Circle on 87th & Kean ave. We used to ride at White Stables at about 8000 s. Kean avenue. That was back in the 50's. I am most interested of the one on Damen just before 87th street

I saw that farm house at the end of the road in the 70's nothing spooky just a house. Later on it was gone. That was like the 70's. Other people said it came and went . That's all I know. Strange yes but supernatural I don't know. You tell me. People said they saw it after that.

It changed a lot as far as nationaliy. It used to be mostly Polish and Litianian but now a lot of mexicans. Many of the older folks still live there. The houses are preety much taken care of. My old cottage on 46th & Francisco has been completly transformed inside and out so there are some improvements also.

Yes I see it on the historic aeriels. It is now an empty lot. I still can't remember it even though I lived on 48th & Hermitage in the 50's. I was looking at 48th st. between Paulina and hermitage on Google street view.

Are you sure you got the address right? I lived right down the street from there and it was a yellow brick front with block glass front windows. It was a tavern back then. That's if we are talking about 1700 w. 48th street in the back of the yards.

I hoped someone would know something about it. You can see the backs of houses in the picture and looks like it's in Chicago somewhere.

I have heard of Royal Oaks but don't remember being there. We as kids went with the family to Dan Ryan Woods at 87th and Western. They had several Polish bands on both sides of 87th street including the pavilion. There was a small pool for the kids like a paddle pool they called it. I remember the tunnel under 87th street and I think that is still there.

I got the information on that one. It is very interesting but that is not the one I was reffering to. Look up " Photographs from the Chicago Daily News". Look under "Old Tomb" when you get there. Thanks again.

In the Chicago Daily News Photagraphs site there is a picture of a tomb or burial mound somewhere in a Chicago back yard it looks like. Anyone know anything about it? Where is it or where was it? No address was given.

Max Marek also had a tavern on the north west corner of 63rd & Wolcott. The sign across the window said "Max Marek the men who beat Joe Louis". That was in the early 50's I used to ride past there on my bike. I'll look in google street view and see if the building is still there.

The building is at 322 E. 43rd st. It was used for the beggining of organized labor in Chicago. It also housed the Dallas resturant. See Polk's chicago 1929 directory.
