Back in the 70's, every Friday night there was drag racing on Forest Preserve Dr going west from Cumberland. This was of course weather permitting. I believe it was approximately 1/4 mile till the curve. We used to be partying in the woods and could hear them clearly. I noticed recently they're building a new section of Irving Park Rd just east of York Rd. It looks like it'll curve down near the train tracks and eventually meet the existing roadway just east of Taft av. I saw a set of traffic signals on this section but have no idea what they might be for. I have searched for hours but can not find a map of this, does anyone know of one?

I go through this intersection on my way home from work and have a question. They finally built an overpass for the railroad, anyone familiar with this intersection knows it's long overdue. The thing I don't understand is I haven't seen the railroad using it. My brother told me they don't use it because it's too steep for the freight trains to climb. Is this true?

I was looking for the Bertrand Goldberg homes that were supposed to have been built in Maywood. I didn't find them but I found these instead. I remember Bob-O-Rinos, great sub sandwiches! It was at Belmont & Pontiac, right before Cumberland. Bob-O's is still on Irving park amd BTW has great beefs. Ther were featured on Channel 7 a few months back. The wife and I went there and the beefs were excellent!

There was an Aladdin's Castle at the HIP too. There was an arcade at Harlem & Foster in the shopping center, I can't remember the name. This was back in the late 70's and early 80's. There was one on Western just north of Belmont that always had the newest pinball games. I believe that was because of the Bally factory that was nearby.

If it's in the side or back, it's a catch basin. This is basically a very large grease trap. The "mustard yellow-black play-dough looking stuff" stuff was big chunks of grease. The grease is supposed to settle to the bottom and the rest flows to the sewer in the street. I remember years ago there was a guy who would go door to door offering to clean it out.
