Some more fake green Chicago street signs on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/CHICAGO-STREET-SIGN-PULASKI-SUPERIOR-YATES-STEWART-ETC-/110727401241?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c7de0f19

My guess is that they are from the suburbs or somewhere else for streets with the same names as some in Chicago. For those that have moved and don't remember, Chicago mounts its standard signs from the side (not the bottom), has square corners (not rounded corners), and the signs are slightly thicker along the top and the bottom edges for added strenght. (The old yellow ones do not have the thicker portion along the top or bottom, but instead have a 90 degree bend at the top and bottom edges (each going in the opposite direction). I mentioned it to him and am curious if he will alter his listing. I am almost tempted to buy and then file a not as described complaint after receiving them.

Also that idiot with the Machesney (Machesny?) sign still has it listed as a Chicago street sign even though he was told a couple of times that it is not even a street in Chicago. He also calls it Porcelain, but I'm guessing it is not that either as it looks fairly modern plus it has paint scraped off on one side that doesn't look like chipping you see on porcelain.

Somebody posted some signs for sale on craigslist and stole the write up I did in this thread about the history of the yellow signs in Chicago.

The person who posted them was a very nice young lady who mentioned she found some great information on the internet about them and seemed thankful for it. At first she thought I might have provided it, but I confessed that I had not and that it was you.

I remember going to the Fluky's on Western, and they had an old yellow "central park" sign, which I thought was the coolest thing since that's where I lived. Except I lived on N Central Pk, and the sign was S Central Pk, but still, I thought it was the coolest thing ever as a kid, seeing our street sign there.

Fluky’s also had a yellow “Maxwell St” sign. I always assumed that’s where they got their start. In any case, ya have to wonder what the value of a sign like that might be today. Aside from its history, Maxwell is a notoriously short street with maybe eight intersections, hence eight signs at best.

I found this very cool photo on e-bay. These old Chicago street signs were for sale at Salvage 1 when they were on 15th & Peoria in 1985.

if it matters to the op, there is an antique store in braidwood illinois that is right beside interstate 55 at reed rd and it is a red building with a bunch of old gas station signs on the outside. Anyway they have 43rd and talman yellow signs. The people who owned it were from brighton park and were from shields and kelly hs. hopefully they have those signs still!

The answer to my question about the year 2001 on many of the downtown signs can be found in another thread here. http://forgottenchicago.com/forum/1/6954/why_do_many_downtown_street_signs_have_the_year_2001_on_them_and_a_logo

To answer the original poster's question, another place you can purchase such used signs is through chicagostreetsigns.com
