I have no information on the old street signs other than that I saw a picture in this thread of the streets signs for the intersection of 30th & Kenneth. I lived at 3006 South Kenneth in the 70's. The house is no longer there - a fire destroyed it in the late 80's.

I finally remembered to ask:
How are streetlights numbered? I've seen what I assume are older streetlights that have numbers painted on them - saw some in Jackson Park today, on poles that were painted grey. The numbers were in yellow on a black background and seemed to correspond to the block number and a sequence.
On Cornell Ave., for instance, they look like:
65 65
11 12, etc.
Is this numbering system still used?

Does anyone out there have any info/pictures of the BLVD signs of the 50-60's. Supposedly there were Brown Boulevard signs, but I can only locate pictures of the Yellow ones. Were thes signs the same one's with bent edges and just painted brown or were they flat? I know they were under park district control, but I still can't locate any info. I have one person who says the sign at AUgusta Blvd and Pulaski was brown in the 60's.

I remember the dark BLVD signs too! Used to ride on Augusta and Austin Bl's alot with parents.

On second thought , I believe Diversey was and is a parkway and avenue. I thought I remember seeing brown signage but that was a long time ago.

Can anybody help me find information on Harry M. Frankenberg, later to be known as :\"Count Yogi", the great golfer and entrepenure out of Chicago's past from 1912 to 1948? He still holds the worlds lowest competitive scoring record that was at Bunker Hill Golf Course in 1934 in the Chicago Open Champioship, playing with Al espinosa from Sportsman's, and Terry McGovern. Richard, north of 47th and west of Pulaski is the Crawford Industrial District and the streets there that have the Blvd. designation are shown as private streets. I believe that area was annexed by the city many years ago, so I would think the city maintains and plows those streets, but I do not know for sure.

Extra alarm fire of the Cities Services Plant, L. Fish Furnature Warehouse on May 27, 1973, along with many other large factory's & warehouse. Fire was one of Chicago's largest fires in Chicago's history. The location is just south of I-55 between Pulaski & Cicero Aves. on the southwest side of the city.

Other sources indicate that District Blvd is an alternate name for 42nd Place, which doesn't make sense because it parallels 47th unless it turns into Kolmar
District Boulevard (Pvt), 4220S 4000 to 4558W. Street runs through the community of Archer Heights which was known as Archer Road District before 1900.
