Just some things to point out:

Piggly Wiggly has a store in Grayslake IL. Also, some of the stores were just renamed, not out of business, like Galyans is now Dicks. SS Kresge is now K Mart.

And, Food 4 Less is a branch of Kroger, selling Kroger badged merchandise.

Thanks for the correction re: Piggly Wiggly, I may have gotten it confused with Certified Grocers who has a portly little guy (almost pig-like) as their logo. I do see now where there are 3 locations left still in the Chicagoland area. Yes, some/alot of the entries on my site have been renamed or bought out, but it's the old familiar brand name that is lost. Thanks, to everyone also who has left nice comments re: my website & keep the comments, corrections & suggestions coming. Craig

Piggly Wiggly Midwest is owned by the same people who own the Butera Markets. From what I read there are 110 stores with 30 company owned and the rest being franchises operating under the Butera and Piggly Wiggly names. Paul Butera is the CEO.

I miss it a lot more than JACK FM.

You also forgot Dr.Jazz Ice Cream Parlor, Zephyr Ice Cream Parlor, Town & Country Restaurants, Jake's Polish Restaurant, Ashkenaz on W.Morse, My Place For? on N.Clark, Tap Root Pub, etc.

This thread sounds a lot like Chicago Tribune's "Gone But Not (Quite) Forgotten" article by Eric Zorn that started in 2005 when Macy's bought Marshall Fields. That message board went on for several years, and although the site is now locked, it can still be viewed. People from Chicago chimed in with everything from Chicago's past with regards to stores, radio stations and attractions that once were and are no more. It's a great site to visit and will take months to read all the contributions. Although there are no photos on this site, the seemingly endless list of names and places is excellent.

Update: Grayslake *had* a Piggly Wiggly. It was recently closed.

Correct, there are still stores in Lake County IL, though. Main point was P-W isn't "gone" or "lost".
