Elaine I read a newspaper article about twenty years ago about the red building on the IIT campus being a woman’s college. After reading your post it may have been the city’s first woman’s college.

Somebody on this site probably has more details on this. The large building across the Ryan from Cellular Field was the state’s first woman college. I think it is a large red building.

The National Sports Daily started in 1990 and lasted just 16 months. The Chicago American was started in 1900 by Randolph Hearst. Back then it was called Hearst’s Chicago American and had several name changes. The Chicago Tribune bought the Hearst newspaper in 1956 and re-named it the Chicago’s American. The Tribune re-named it the Chicago Today in 1969. My guess is that the boxes may pop up

Back in the 60’s I was there many times. You could drive up the road and park next to cemetery back then. The lake next to the cemetery always gave me the creeps. I later heard that the mop used the lake to dump their bodies back in 30’s and 40’s. Having a road next to a small lake make it easy for them to dump bodies. Captain thanks for another great thread. I have been watching the series. They have been giving some interesting facts about the show during one of the commercial breaks. One explained that the “M” in “M Squad” came from the “M” on the squad car’s license plate. The “M” on squad cars started back in the 50’s.

I drive by this picture location often. To me is seems like the horse and wagon is on Grand. It’s next to the street car on the left side of the picture. Thanks for posting this picture.

The 1930 picture shows the newspapers being delivered by horse and wagon. You can see the wagon entering the picture as it moves west on Grand.
