No, Not just Jujubes. I'd say most likely from the spilled Coca-Cola, And maybe some candy. But the first that I mentioned was the most likely culprit.

I agree with you on the hyperdevelopment. Much of the even greater buildings have been replaced with oversized/bland obscene looking eyesores. With a few exceptions. But MOST of the new ones are pathetic looking.

It WAS Great Chicago, And had several fires. Until the last one around 1975 which destroyed the whole building.

There WAS a big metal root beer barrel in the back of the store entrance on W.Chicago Av many years ago. And I believe there was a shoe repair service to the other side.

Yes, The Loop does seem desolate now, Compared to some 30-40 years ago. Many places, Though some schlocky. Were REAL treats. Especially with Tad's Steaks, Wieboldt's, Marshall Field & Co, Carson Pirie & Scott, Woolworth's, SS Kresge, Treasure Chest, Out-Of-Town Newsstand, Hoe Kow, Stop & Shop, Greyhound & Trailways Bus Depots, et al.........

Unfortunately, Trost's closed down a few years ago. I guess the factors were area changes & trends plus personal tastes not favoring the hobby enthusiasts. But I somehow think that place could have actually weathered such changes.

Somehow, I think there's a possibility that the site may have been hijacked from some unscrupulous entity. That actually happened to some other website similar to nostalgic realms or places.

At Noble nr Augusta now, THere's a former Texaco which now serves as an auto repair and/or towing service. I would somehow think that the restaurant was in a pretty big building.

Actually from what I remember. The storefront was a tavern from at least the 1960's or earlier til the 1980's. But I don't remember a restaurant being there. I actually remember that place being a double storefront tavern.

I could actually remember a Burny Bros bakery on W.Randolph, E of Wabash. I also remember when the logo was modernized in 1973 with more modernized printing & a heart sitting above the oval logo. I also recall, If I'm right. That Jewel food stores was a major supplier of their baking goods, More less of a division of Jewel..
