I agree with you on the hyperdevelopment. Much of the even greater buildings have been replaced with oversized/bland obscene looking eyesores. With a few exceptions. But MOST of the new ones are pathetic looking.

Yes, The Loop does seem desolate now, Compared to some 30-40 years ago. Many places, Though some schlocky. Were REAL treats. Especially with Tad's Steaks, Wieboldt's, Marshall Field & Co, Carson Pirie & Scott, Woolworth's, SS Kresge, Treasure Chest, Out-Of-Town Newsstand, Hoe Kow, Stop & Shop, Greyhound & Trailways Bus Depots, et al.........

Club Lucky on Wabansia nr Honore (NE corner, Though) Fireside Restaurant 5700 block of N.Ravenswood Mexican restaurant 3000 block of W.25th (on the NE and/or SE corner) A Polish Deli at 5300 W Roscoe Travel Agency/Tax Service 2801 S St.Louis Just to name a few. Actually from what I remember. The storefront was a tavern from at least the 1960's or earlier til the 1980's. But I don't remember a restaurant being there. I actually remember that place being a double storefront tavern.

According to the 1929 Polk's Directory There were restaurants tucked away at 859 N.Lincoln (Wolcott), 756 N.Noble & 1249 W.Chase. If anybody knows or could find out; What were the names of those places?.

I could actually remember a Burny Bros bakery on W.Randolph, E of Wabash. I also remember when the logo was modernized in 1973 with more modernized printing & a heart sitting above the oval logo. I also recall, If I'm right. That Jewel food stores was a major supplier of their baking goods, More less of a division of Jewel..
