Markay Bowl existed druing the 50s/60s on the second floor of a commercial building located along Western Ave a few doors north of Touhy. The lanes harken back to the days of "pin boys". Almost directly across the street was the more modern Sunset Bowl opened after the advent of automatic pin setters. Both are long gone.

Way Out, There are many buildings throughout the Rogers Pk area that are identical to those on the 2500 W Touhy block. During the 1950s I had friends in a few of the apartments and learned that these were co-op buildings constructed aroung 1950.

The library on the 6400 block of N California, constructed around 1962, is of a similar vintage as the demolished bulding in Albany Park. The current library replaced a storefront facility which was located on Devon a few doors west of Washtenaw.

@mornac, Musket and Henrikson was one of the few 24 hour pharmacies up north during the 60s/70s. It was located at the northeast corner of Main and Crawford in Skokie until at least the 1980s.Like all the others it was probably killed off by the chains.

During the 60s/early 70s Giggios did hand tossed pizza in the front window of their store on the north side of Devon Ave a few doors east of California. I also remember seeing pizza delivery vehicles in the neighborhood every evening from Lauries at Foster and Broadway. A third local pizza option was IL Forno. The name still survives, but under different ownership.

Way Out, The large department store at Dempster and Waukegan Rd was EJ Korvette. It occupied nearly all of the space in the strip mall. The company was a mid sized discounter based in Philadelphia named for Eight Jewish Korean War Veterans. The prime years for the operation were the 1960s.

We shopped at the both Lawrence and Broadway (Racine) and the Lincoln and Belmont locations. All of the Goldblatts stores were downscale in terms of interior decor.They were however very price competitive when compared to Fields and Carsons, etc. The current tenant at the Uptown locations is a bookseller.

There was a Hi-Lo Foods at Devon and Mozart Ave during the 50s and 60s on the south side of the street. The low concrete wall bordering the parking lot along Devon allowed for the seating of several people. The building has been recently used as a Croatian- American meeting hall.
