To the best of my knowledge it originally did end at 55th/Garfield Blvd., but at some point, around 1949 or so it was formally extended to 59th simply in order to take in all of St. Basil parish. We moved there in 1949, and we always were always included in Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council. There were a few of us that delivered the Journal in that area.

It was always my understanding that the Ford City site had beena Dodge plant during WW II and, as stated by SUPERCFL, was built to manufactury Wright R-3350 engines for B-29 bombers. It was subsequently purchased by Tucker and eventually by Ford. Although Ford did own it at one time, I do not know that they ever manufactured aanything there.
