They have memorials all the time at Andersonville. They also do reenactments there. Andersonville gets a lot of tourism. The Confederate Soldiers buried here don't get much visitors. I'll bet most people in Chicago never knew of Camp Douglas or the Dead Confederate Soldiers.

Robert Topolski was a member of the Cornell Dukes. His nickname was Tilt. I worked with his Mom at the Lion Match Company back in the 60's. Two of my friends married Tilt's two sisters Beverly & Shirley. I stood up at Shirley's Wedding along side my friend Steve & Tilts brother Jerry. Jerry was killed a few years later in a bar on 48th st. He was stabbed to death over a pool game.

Community Discount Stores. There was a small one on 48th s Ashland that use to be the sponsor for Flash Gordon on TV back in the 50's. The store expanded and a large one was built on 47th s Halsted st. I worked there part time while going to High School around 1966.

My name is Joe, We might know each other by sight because I spent a lot of time in Rogers back then. I use to drink a lot with Ron & Kathy & Jim & Sue & Elmer & all the other regulars. I use to help clean up the Little League Field & my son played on a team there. Did you know Peewee? He was a regular fixture there.

Vitaks on 48th s Ashland during the 50's & 60's had closed in booths inside there where you could listen to your 45 or album before you purchased it. It was a cool place to meet girls.

I went to Tilden from 63 to 68. I use to go to Sherman Park a lot. That's where I learned to Swim. I was in the Boy Scouts across the street from Cornell Park in 1962.

I read a book on Camp Douglas called To Die In Chicago. I also went to a memorial for the 6,000 Confederate Soldiers who are buried at Oak Wood Cemetary.

We use to go to Coney Island Restaurant on 46th s Ashland for many years. My Aunt was a waitress there and so was my wife. My Aunt was also a waitress at Julia's on 47th s Western. They had great food.

I hung around Rogers bar in the late 70's & 1980's. Roger was a member of the Rebels and his bar was called the R & S Hideaway. It was across the street from the Town of Lake little league field. Some of the old Rebels & Muskadoodlers use to hang at the bar.
