In the bucktown area there are several buildings with bulls heads protruding from their facades. Often thought they were old butcher shops, but this questions begs a little more research. Have to look into it further as time allows. Have to say, time isn't allowing for much these days.

Another facet of city life that seems to be fading away. Most became run down flophouses and were either razed or converted to condos. The Bel-Ray at Belmont and Racine is an example of condo conversion. Also I think many were closed due to increased regulations stemming from the tragic fire at the Paxton.

Ive heard it was to be torn down. I drive it at least three times a week and hope they leave it alone. Traffic is bad enough over there, without it it would be a disaster. They have razed the United American Cab Co headquarters on Belmont and Clybourn, and I heard maybe the 19th district police station may go also. More banks and CVS or perhaps a condo to replace them. UGH!

Just in the last year or so, saw a piece on, I think, abc local news about the Tip-Top-Tap. Showed the inside as it is today. Probably can find it on youtube. Tip-Top-Tap seems rather ridiculous today as there couldn't be much of a view unless you are a voyeur. But at one time it was the tallest building on north Michigan.

Does anyone remember the name of a ginger ale with a picture of a penny on the label? It was sold in quart bottles. I want to say it was called Old Abe or something close to that. Kchi pretty much summed it up nicely. Another facet of business ownership are the guys hauling in a juke, poker machine or pinball machine without ever asking for it. Kicked them out of my place machine and all. Funny thing, a week later I received a registered letter stating my license was issued in error and I would have to close. Often wonder if there was a connection?
