Preston Bradley gave my great grandmothers eulogy in 1971. My fathers side of the family was greatly impressed by this. I believe he had a radio or tv program at some point. He was rather advanced in age at that time so I would guess the show would have been in the fifties. Also where was the Peoples Church? I know Im asking the right group here so thanks in advance for any info.

My mother alwayus listened to him on radio like in the 40's I remember. I think I saw that church on Michigan ave around 22nd st. but not sure. I checked out the Peoples church some time ago and it had a small congregation that may be another church. Put it in search and see what you get.

I was baptized by Dr. Preston Bradley. The Peoples Church is still located at 941 W. Lawrence in Uptown. Below are a couple of links that might be of interest to you.

Thanks for the information. Is that the original location of the church? I thought I saw it somewhere else on the near south side.

Richard, below is a link to further information on the subject. The first location Preston Bradley used for services was on Sheffield Ave. in 1912. Then subsequent locations were used, all on the north side as far as I can determine, until the present building, designed by J.E.O Pridmore, was built in 1926. I wish I could help more with the church you remember from the near south side. Do you remember what the building looked like?

Preston Bradley was inspired by the Peoples Church of Englewood. Here's a postcard of it. http://www.cardcow.com/69599/peoples-liberal-church-englewood-chicago-illinois/ I'd have to dig into my files to find the preacher at Englewood who inspired Bradley. The Peoples Church movement was widespread at the turn of the 19th century. The Englewood Church merged into what's now the Beverly Unitarian Universalist Church. There was also a Peoples Church in Woodlawn too. Also Aurora...

Here's a link from the Beverly Church with their History including a reference to the Peoples Liberal Church of Englewood and the connection to Rev Bradley http://www.beverlyunitarian.org/castle-more-century-history

A character in the Soap Opera "Guding Light" was inspired by Preston Bradley by the way, as was the name of the show. I think that can be found in the People Church's history in one of the links above.
