State Street nightclubs

Does anyone remember or know of nightclubs on State St.at or before Randolph St.operating during the 1950s to the 1960s,pictures or personnal experiences,will be appriciated... Thank you

There's a short film from '62 called 'Dance Craze' which was filmed at Flo's Kit-Kat Lounge, which was across the street from the Oriental Theater. It features the band The Millionaires with Ral Donner ( and also stars Sig Sakowicz and was produced by Jim Lounsbury.

Your probably right that it was on Rush St and not the south end of Michagan St.
It was 52 years ago Ha! Ha!

The Blue Angel was the only club in the US that regularly featured calypso music and entertainers, long before Belafonte had his first hit and the craze took off.
In February 1955, the Calypso Follies was presented at the club, including a violinst and singer calling himself The Charmer.
The Charmer was actually born Louis Wolcott. While in town with the act, he attended a speech given by Elijah Muhammad. Soon after, he quit show business, became Minister Louis X at the NOI Temple 11 in Boston and later became head of the entire NOI.

The Chea Paree (probably spelled wrong) was on State just north of Lake st.

Chez Paris--in French, the pronunciation does sound like "shay paree."
