Have been trying to locate a 1950 Chgo & vicinty phonebook Needed to verify the spelling of last names of my childhood friends. Most lived on the 4200-4300 block of Pittsburgh Ave in the temporary veterans housing post WWII. Is there a place that has them? Have been told HW Library does. Have been thru microfilm at Chgo Hist Museum on Clark.

Bruce,

If you still live in the Chicago area, you can go to the library and they may have old phone directories. Before I moved to Florida, when I was doing ancestry research, I went to the Arlington Hts. library and they have old Chicago phone directories and I think maps. Also, you may want to try the Church of the Latter Day Saints research library. They have a lot of information, too. Best to call before you go. When calling the library, you need to speak with research librarian.

The Newberry Library also has a huge collection of Chicago phone books. You can get a free research card - the staff is very friendly and helpful - it appears that they have the White Pages from those years:

Richard, I did a quick scan of Petersen/Petersen in the 1951 phone book....none on 33rd Street. Can you give me first names? LOTS of Petersons!

Thanks for you efforts. The girls name was Jennette but she did live on 33rd or 33rd pl. just west of Halsted. I don't know her parents name but I used to call her in the 50's and at that time found the number in the book. It could have been like 1952-55.Thanks again

I am looking for the exact address of a tavern called Pat Flaherty and Swede's Lounge. It operated in the mid 50's around the Irving Park Rd and Kedzie area.

Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

wrightej,
I found a lot of info on him and business but not a address. There was a death notice as well from Cal. 2002 and a lot of his racing career. I am sure someone will.

For anyone interested I also found this on Google.

My uncle Bill Ahrends owned a Snack shop that was attached to pat’s bar in Chicago. When I was 6 years old I sat on his lap and drove the pace car he won at Indy. He was one of the best people I ever knew. A,Jaj foytand the Rathmatt brothers would spend a lot of nights in the snack shop. My Mother Berna Peterson was a good friend to all the drivers. I miss all these people a lot.

I hope someone does find a address because now I interested in that as well.

Greg, a few more names you might check
Morton & Zena Striker/Stryker/Striecher

Birchman, Sladek, Reschke/Reshke, Elliott, Shackelton

All lived in the NW corner of the complex. So it would be an address on Pontiac, Plainfield (4300s), Pensacola or Cullom (7800s)

Thanks!
