Lake Michigan Breakwater

Here is a question about something that I had almost completely forgotten about. Back in the early 50's, when I was in about 5th or 6th grade, we went on excursions around the city. One of the things I clearly remember doing was driving on the breakwater in Lake Michigan. I have no idea where it was possible to do this, or how long it was possible to do this, or even if it was legal to do it, but I clearly remember it, and so does a friend that always was along.

Anyone else remember this, and where it was, and any other information about it?

Thanks

I think you can physically drive on the breakwater south of the river out to the lighthouse (or could if it was allowed - I've seen cars out there, probably city vehicles). Is that the one you mean?
