For all you taco fans go find a Burger King. They sell a taco that is very similar to Jack in the box.

Always went to the one on Western and Addison. Now occupied by Popeyes. Always had the tacos which were fantastic, at least to a ten year old. Also loved the "steak" sandwich. whatever the hell that was! Also, after reading these posts I have to wonder why any one would get nasty. I think this is about Forgotten Chicago and things and places that no longer exist. Memories and reminiscing are the only things that really matter here. That is the only reason we are here, to savor the past and tell our stories in snippets that may interest someone who is interested. To those who don't!@##$$%%% you!!!!! Thanks for listening LOL!

Back in the '70s, I played in a few R'n'R bands and still remember stopping at Jack in the Box for Breakfast Jacks ( similar to an Egg McMuffin but on a hamburger bun) and onion rings, a very complimentary taste combination, in the wee hours after playing a gig.
When J in the B closed up, White Castle was the only convenient alternative but I still remember suffering for that choice the next day.
Now, just talking about onion rings or White Castles at 3 AM can give me indigestion now.

Jack in the Box still going strong out west. There was a Jack in the Box in Arlington Heights on Rand & Palatine Rds. Closed in the mid 1970's.

There was one at Kedzie and Foster, but I don't remember one at Irving/Kedzie.

There was never a Jack In The Box at Kedzie and Foster. A McDonald's was, and is on the northeast corner. Jack In The Box on Kedzie and Irving Park was open around 1973. I don't remember when they closed and turned into a Duk's.

I noticed I had made an error when we were driving east on Irving Park yesterday. The Jack In The Box was at Kimball and Irving Park, on the southeast corner. Duks took it over later, and it now houses a Subway and a T-Mobile store.

Getting old sure messes up your memory!

The areas have changed so much over the years, I don't even recognized them anymore.

Tell me about it! We spotted a whole lot of newly-constructed condo buildings along Irving Park. A lot of that property had small businesses.

You know, I was looking at some pictures of Michigan Avenue, now and then (on February 10, 2015) and it dawned on me that one of our favorite hangouts when we were in high school was a Jack in the Box that was on the south side of Chicago Avenue, just west of Michigan Avenue. It was a two story operation, and it was nice that you could sit on the second floor and not "be under observation." A big night out was riding the 152 Addison bus downtown, stopping in at the Central Book Store on Michigan, north of Randolph, and buying a few books for a few dollars, and then walking up to the Jack in the Box before heading home.

There use to be one at the corner of Clark and Peterson, behind my old high school, Senn High, back in the late 70's early 80's when I was there. It had that big box and jack sticking out of it. Funny now that I think of it.

Hugh that one is gone now. The property became part of the school park. I believe that one also became a Duke's Drive In. I was a Amundsen Viking! You have to remember Carson's Ribs accross the street?

Hugh/rjmcahon,
The Jack at Ridge and Clark was a favorite fast food spot and across the street prior to Carsons was the very popular Town and Country restaurant.

I can remember the Town & Country as well. They had one on North Av. and the Kennedy. It turned into a Blockbuster but I am not sure of what it now!

They tore it down several years ago.
