1980 stat boundary ?

Back in the 80's my Aunt and Uncle lived at 38th Pl and California, our route back home to Irving Park was to go up California to W. Fulton then to Sacramento Blvd to get around the tracks. I was retracing our route on Google maps to see how it has changed since then, I noticed a "street" named "1980 stat boundary" off of Fulton and Francisco. Upon further looking into it, it seems it just an alley.

Anybody know why its labeled like that? I did a Google search and found this

http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=1980+stat+bouundary+chcago&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&pq=1980%20stat%20bouundary%20chcago&xhr=t&q=1980+stat+boundary+chicago&cp=22&pf=p&sclient=psy&client=safari&rls=en&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=1980+stat+boundary+chicago&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=6cbe03e6833a46ef

The 1st four hits have this listed as a street, here it is on Google maps:<iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&amp;ll=41.886652,-87.698767&amp;spn=0.002512,0.005681&amp;z=18&amp;output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&amp;ll=41.886652,-87.698767&amp;spn=0.002512,0.005681&amp;z=18&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

Very strange. Notice it on this community map of the West Town Community (lower left corner - red line).

Obviously it is the location of some boundary line. I've notice quite a few strange things on Google Maps, like honorary street names displaying and alleys noted as streets. I guess it all depends on where Google is pulling the street information from, Hopefully someone can find this out.

My initial guess is that it has to do with the 1980 census. Take a look at these Google search results, there are several mentions of a "1980 Stat Boundary" and most have to do with the census.

That exact location must have been a line and Google Maps pulled that info it assigned that street name to it. It's funny how some of the review websites have picked up on that name and display it in the location.

I'm assuming you've already seen (or posted) this entry on Flickr?

No, I had not seen or posted that on Flickr. Thanks for the link, I see it caught someone else attention, I think your right it may have to do with the census. I just found it odd. I've also found strange things on Google maps, they had an alley in street view, If I remember right it was near S. Millard.
