I know, I'm beating a dead horse here, but here is another excerpt regarding Al & Jeff's Laugh-In and other fun memories of the poster:
From http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2005/09/gone_but_not_qu/comments/page/17/:
"I grew up in Old Town and remember a lot of the places already mentioned; including the mod clothing at The Man At Ease on Wells St., Sieben's Bier Stube (liverwurst sandwiches and draft root beer in the garden) Tap Root Pub (steamed lobster dinners), the beer garden next to the original Second City and Playwrights' Theater where silent movies were shown, Hotel Lincoln where Viola Spolin lived and the all-night restaurant where Second City people used to hang, later knows as Al & Jeff's Laugh-In; visiting a friend who lived upstairs from the Bulls (we went on opening night and never thought the place would survive in a small, dark basement); going to La Salle School and seeing Eleanor Parker (?!) at Twin Anchors before it was "discovered," Johnny Weiss' on Lincoln, Small World, The Game Theater and the Hacienda Del Sol on Sedgwick, Rainbow Hobby Shop on North Ave.; New Parkway Riding Stables, the Quiet Night on Belmont (the tiny club where I saw Mahavishnu Orchestra before they were!), The London House, The Plugged Nickel, Bordelon's (Interior Design) near the original Playboy Club on Walton, triple-feature horror matinees at the Biograph and across the street at the Crest, and WBKB's Shock Theater with Marvin in the 50's. I have to confess, I didn't understand the slogan "Wanzer on Milk is Like Sterling on Silver" for a long time because I thought sterling was a verb, as in "to sterl." Duh!"
