Does anyone remember the name of the tavern that used to be located on 26th and south Kildare Avenue that had a hole in the floor that you could actually go fishing?

The Kildare Lounge was at 26th & Kildare. Is this the building? If so I never heard of a hole for fishing.

Humm. My wife told me that her uncle once owned a tavern right around that area. I'll have to check about exactly where it was located. Could be 26th and Kildare. Could be.

Matchbook Cover from the Cushman Collection..probably 50's or 60's..doesn't say anything about a fishing hole on the matchbook..unless the girl on the cover is

Capt. I have the identical matchbook.
My neighborhood "grandma" an 85 year old Bohemian woman that grew up in the old neighborhood told me her and her husband used to go there after baseball games they played with their athletic social club. She never mentioned a fishing hole story to me.

The tavern was located on the northwest corner if that helps. It had to be late 50's early 60's when the fishing hole was there.

My wife's uncle owned a tavern on 26th a few blocks west of Pulaski years ago.
He passed away some time ago but her younger uncle remembers a place a block or two away called the fishing hole. He said there was a (tiny) lake in the middle of the floor.

Sounds like the same place. Finally! What was the name of the tavern? I grew up on 27th and Keeler.

Loriane, my father grew up on 27th & Tripp. My grandmother owned the house from 1962-1991.

I finally figured it all out. After reading about your book, I now know who your parents are. I knew both of them. John Appleby was my brother-in-law and best friends with your dad.
