The National Anthems On Chicago TV

Until 1989 WMAQ-TV (Probably WNBQ-TV, At The First Time) used a circa 1960 COLOR National Anthem with an introduction by then President Eisenhower. Showing various scenes of the US including New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, Chicago (including Monroe Harbor looking west towards Randolph St & The Old St.Mary's Church which stood til 1971 on 1100 S Wabash) With the sing-a-long words of the national anthem. WLS-TV had a super loud Declaration of Independence national anthem. I wonder what sort of national anthem that station had before it was WLS-TV?, Particularly WBKB-TV's?.

Didn't kow it wa Eisenhower doing the annoucing.

I'm wonder about a NA film WTTW used whic I saw in the late 70's when I got up early Sunday Morning when the station sign on.

I couldn't remember all than was shown because I was too young, but I remeber the Daley center, along whith the Lake Point Towers, so I don't know how old this film was when I first saw it so I'm hopeing someone knows about this one as well.

Have you been to the Fuzzy Memories website? It's an incredible archive of old television broadcast clips, mostly from Chicago (the site's based here). You might try searching there for station sign-offs, but be warned, you'll stumble on tons of other things and end up watching those too.

The one from WTTW-TV was around 1971, They one time in 1988 had a 1965 national anthem in living color on WTTW-TV, Showing old scenes of Chicago during that time. One in the late afternoon near the Kennedy aound N. Milwaukee with the Chicago skyline.

The clip was probably 1969 , Because of The John Hancock Center (1969), Picasso at Daley Civic Center (1967), Lake Point Tower (1968) & The Coca-Cola Sign removed 1970 or 71. Not 1965.

After "Poltergeist" came out, everytime the National Anthem came on - then went to white snow, It got a little creepy (because of the movie).

through from 1982, the J. Hancock photo was probably taken between 1969 and 1976, since the Water Tower place didn't exist and I guess the band playing the NA outside the WGN studios was from the 60's.

Note: Aparently the ending was with a hellicopter flying from studio, but was cut out from this particualer clip.
