1932 Chicago Counter-Olympics

I was reading an article that contained a passing reference to a Communist Party-sponsored workers' olympics meant to serve as an alternative to the official games. It seems that it was a moderately significant event, with 400 athletes participating (compared to 1300 in the LA Olympics of the same year). Details are sketchy, though. There is a journal article I am unable to access full text of and just a few casual references here and there online. Does anybody have any info on this? Where were the events held?

According to Google Books they were held at Stagg Field on the University of Chicago campus from July 28 - August 1, 1932.
