Does anyone remember the 'Lions' building on North ave?

I grew up near Pulaski and North ave from 1967-1980. In my neighborhood travels, I remember that there was a large building around the 4200w block of North ave.(north side of street)
It was referred to as the 'Lions' building. Through my youthful eyes it had the appearance of a huge yellow bricked hotel. I also remember that there were postings on the buildings exterior of upcoming banquet shows inside during the very early 70s. A very young Chicago Elvis impersonator,Rick Saucedo had played there. This was BEFORE Elvis died too! Does anyone have information on this building? I believe it had been torn down. Another loss.

Hi Rich, yes i did as well as driving by the area. Because the building fronts have changed so much(and my memory is aging,,lol) I'm not 100% sure of the exact locale. I'm 85% convinced that it has been razed. I'm more interested in the history of the building rather than its status.

Yep, my cousin's Baptism party was there, in 1964. It was a ritzy banquet hall then. The big Lions sign was there until the 80s at least.

The building is at 4306 North Ave. The earliest reference that I can find for the building was 1937. Over the years the newspaper has article of many events at the hall. The last reference I found was 1970. From the articles, I believe the building was owned by the Lions Club.

I spent Many years there in the basement, it was a bowling alley. (you can see the sign on the far corner) My husband and his brother owned it in the 60's and early 70's. That is where we met..... the banquet hall upstairs was still in operation, weddings, parties, political functions etc... Nice there is still a picture, and yes it was from a postcard. Have pics from inside bowling alley never thought about taking an outside shot. Oh the memories!!!!

I remember the Lions Building very well. While I grew up further northwest in the City, or doctor was located over the Tiffin Theater building at North and Karlov, and my grandmother lived on Lowell. We were in that area a lot. The Lions Building seemed to be an SRO to me, and I remember when it was torn down. There was a bowling alley and a banquet hall there. Nearby was Kral's Kiddie Corner, a big store for childrens things. The old Pioneer Bank was on the corner of North and Pulaski, and there was a building across the street, on Pulaski just north of the alley north of North Avenue, that used to be the original bank building. A Chicago Public Library was located there when I was a kid. I recently found a bank book for an account my father opened at Pioneer Bank in 1924. Izen's Shoes, which recently closed down, was another long time business in the area. My father had a distant cousin who ran a live poultry shop on North Avenue, a couple of doors east of Keeler, and he was known throughout the family as "Chicken John." I believe the large store west of Keeler that is now a supermarket "Jimenez" used to be a furniture store, and right on the corner of Grand and Kostner there used to be a dance school. Just up the corner on Kostner, on the east side of the street, there was a building that used to be "Keystone Emergency Hospital." While it was already closed when I was growing up, my uncle told me it was a place where accident victims were brought in pretty bad shape, and usually didn't survive.

I worked there as a busboy for the catering business for about 2 years 70-71. 2 nights a week. Got the place set up on a Wed, for the weekend weddings and parties and worked Sat. nights. Place had about 4 different halls on the 3 floors. Had a big New Years Eve party in the Grand Ballroom with the polka band the Ampol-Aires playing every year. Restaurant was on the corner of the building; never looked busy. Bowling alley was in the basement, but I can't remember if it was operational at the time.
