I still have ceramic banks from both Continental Bank, a kangaroo with a smaller kangaroo in her pouch (Big bank with the Little Bank Inside) and Hubert the Harris Lion. I also have a metal Banthrico model of the Northern Trust Bank at 50 S. LaSalle.

Morrie Stark for Stark's Warehouse- Tell 'em Morrie sent you, and get a free gift.

When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer! BTW, I used to frequent a bar many years ago and they had one of my favorite signs there, printed in Polish, Nie mam Schlitza, nie mam piwa! I don't speak Polish, but the message was clear.

Two Ton Baker for Riverview- Riverview, where you can laugh your troubles away!

Hudson 3-2700

Pepsi-Cola hits the spot!

Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, tastes great, Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, can't wait

--A friend of mine grew up near Stevens Point in the days when Point beer was truly a local brew. One story he likes to tell is of sitting in a local tavern when the "When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer" ad came on. A guy at the other end of the bar shot back: "When yer outta Point, yer outta town!"

Hamm's beer, "From the land of sky blue waters." Do they still make Hamm's?

Old Style, "Pure brewed from God's country." I'm pretty sure Old Style left Wisconsin years ago.

How about these slogans- The Friendly Beer, this one is/was? common in Minnesota but I did find it on tap in Berwyn once.

Another- Brewed With World Famous Waukesha Water, we used to go to a small bar on 44th & Western that had this beer's sign outside. An old Lithuanian couple owned the place, no atmosphere but some great characters, a pool table and Joe never carded us. ;^)

At ten o'clock every weeknight, my grandfather would shout out "Put on Number Two," and we would watch the news with Fahey Flynn and P.J.Hoff. I remember them being sponsored by the Santa Fe Railroad, ("It's fun to ride the train today when the train you ride is Santa Fe! Santa Fe, all the way, its fun to ride the train") and Commonwealth Edison with their animated light bulb bird mascot called "Little Bill."

Hey ba Hoarder,

Was that bar on the West side of Western and did they sell sausage sandwiches.
I worked at American Can on 60th and Western and on Saturday night we would have our lunch at a small bar. Can't remember the name or what street.
Thanks, Swede

Swede, yes, the bar was on the west side of the street, the east side of the parkway would be Western Blvd. We went there in the late '60's to the early '70's and if it had a name I never knew it. With the Foxhead 400 sign hanging outside to us it just became "Hey, lets go to Foxhead."Joe and Anita ran the place, I don't recall eating a sausage sandwich in there but sometimes Anita would bring out some of her homemade Lithuanian delicacies for us.They had some oldtimers living in the basement, or many a back room, I don't recall exactly and when the beer flowed so did their stories of the old country, or their job or something. Never saw any girls in there, for sure it wasn't a very stylish place, but to shoot some pool and have a few laughs it was the best. Especially when you were nineteen.

How about cigar commercials of the 50's:

Ernie Kovas with Dutch Masters The Master Cigar

Edee Adams with Muriel Cigars. She would walk out in her long gown

La Palina had one also. Can't remember if it was a knight with a helmet and a large bloom

Speaking of Kool-Aid knockoffs, does anyone remember Wylers? I think they actually gave Kool-Aid a run for their money in the late 60's and into the 70's.

Wyler's, now there's a name from the past. Seems like they started with lemonade and then branched out into other flavors if I remember correctly.

Back in the late 1960's I remember the Fizzies drink tablets that you added to water to make a flavored drink.

Then there was this stuff:

It was short-lived (for obvious reasons I guess) and I only remember it because in the commercials the voice of the cow on the envelope was that of Frank Fontaine, the fair-voiced baritone who played the drunken lush who visited Joe the Bartender on the Jackie Gleason Show.

that old Moo Juice product just mentioned reminds me of another in a jar called PDQ, an egg-nog (flavored) mix (these products seem to've stemmed from the then new marketing of freeze-dried mixes, like instant coffee). I liked it then, just as I also liked Anna Banana soda. When invited to parties, at least the ones I was invited to it was customary to bring some drink(s) to share, and my usual contribution was bottles of Anna Banana soda. Was I invited to many parties after awhile?

I'm surprised Fizzies are still around, if they are, they were terrible.

There were chocolate flavored straws to sip your milk through,

The current iteration of Fizzies is likely a IP buyout being sold for nostalgic purposes. They were never very good (nor very fizzy). Sort of an Alka Seltzer with no hangover relief.

Mogra,
I loved Salerno Butter Cookies. I use to put them on my fingers.
My uncle worked for Salerno as a sales rep back in the 50's

"Storekeeper!......Canfields for everyone"

Does anyone watch Buzzer TV? Channel 50.4 over the air waves and on Comcast, 364. They show old TV game shows like Let's Make A Deal, What's My Line, Super Password, they have a lot of old commercials showing the products that paid for the show! Like Anacin aspirin, Record-A-Call answering machine. I still like Match Game with Gene Rayburn.
