I know all the usual favorites (Deep Dish Pizza, Italian beef...), but what are your favorite Off the radar, only in Chicago dishes/desserts/drinks? Any dishes/desserts/drinks that are no longer around?

My favorite: Melrose peppers, with some good bread and sharp provolone.

South Shore lays claim to the invention of creamy garlic salad dressing, at Alexanders Steak House off of 79th, so famous that Nicky Hilton was said to have flown containers of it out to Beverly Hills for his wedding to Liz Taylor.

Haven't had creamy garlic dressing since I left Chicago in the 70's. I think it used to be a typical salad dressing option.

I loved the salad dressing at the $1.99 Steak restaurant on State Street downtown. It was a chain and I'm not sure it's around anymore but there appears to be one in San Francisco and I went in once a few years ago and the dressing was the same. Almost a garlic blue cheesy taste.
