The view to the southwest shows ship masts from ships docked on the river, and a bridge. And also, the gas holder at Chicago's first gas company and first gas works, used for lighting, built in 1850, on the south side of Monroe Street, near Market Street ( now Wacker Drive) and related buildings; interesting photos taken in 1858!
And the view to the northeast, on Clark Street, near Randolph, seems to be a "Steam Fire Engine."
