Anybody have any info on this property? Looking at the old aerials it has been there since atleast 1938. Hospital? Housing? Factory?

Are you referring to the Michigan Boulevard Garden Apartments?

It looks rather like the Marshall Field Gardens homes so I would assume it was either public housing or charity subsidized low-income housing from the aesthetic. You might try the public housing museum if nobody else answers it. The design looks very garden city mid-late 30's. I wanna know what this is too!

The tv show Shameless filmed there not too long ago. I was surprised to see it pop up as a filming location on one of the episodes-it didn't look that far gone. The Rosenwald & Marshall Field apartments were, if memory serves, privately financed experiments in low-income housing, paid for by wealthy businessmen.

Also reminds me of the Mecca Apartments on the north side of 34th Street from State to Dearborn.

Why did I think Rosenwald was further north and east?
