Can anyone tell me the history of this building? It looks quite old and is huge with immense doors. Did it have something to do with the railroad?

Interesting angled rear building line on the building behind it which fronts onto Ashland which looks like it backed onto RR ROW. It certainly looks like it could have been RR shops of something of that nature. Hopefully somebody who knows will chime in.

It used to be part of the Otis Elevator works.

No, sweat. We all seem to have some form of dementia.
My form involves standing in the bathroom wondering why I came.

The photo from the other thread is cool: https://www.flickr.com/photos/shekaago/9443214985

Would love to see a photo of how it looked with the bridge in place.

You know, when I saw this topic come up yesterday I started looking around for some information myself, and stumbled across this book on Google Books:

Buyers' Guide and Industrial Directory of Chicago

Suggest you take a look at this on Google Books, it was fascinating, although nothing on 1600 S. Wood St.

Dunning1--thanks for pointing me to the Google book. Now I'm obsessed! Love the advertising especially and located a few buildings that are still standing.
