From what I remember the 1500 W Monroe building was a printing plant. Creative Card Co, a greeting card co. was there until not too long ago. With the dawning
of the digital age, a lot of the smaller and mid size printers folded. As a residual effect, a lot of the pre press, color separators, binderies, etc, went under too.

Chicago was at one time, the printing center of the US, if not the world, due to it's access to rail and waterway...The top three largest printers in the world were here at one time. The Cuneo Press, at 22nd and Clinton near the river and Chinatown, was one of them. It became a warehouse for used tires and an eyesore if you were coming from the south into the city on 1-94. I believe it was used for some of the firefighting scenes in the Ron Howard film "Backdraft"...afterwards, the city of Chicago imploded whatever remained.
