Last year a project got underway to build a new church, St Raphael the Archangel in Lake County, from the exterior of St. John of God, a south side (Back of the Yards) Chicago church that had closed its doors awhile ago. The interior of the new church is coming from another shuttered Chicago church, St. Peter of Canisius.

Chicago locations:

St John of God 1238 W. 52nd St.

St Peter of Canisius 5057 W. North Ave.

The exterior pieces of St John of God were transported to Lake Couny at a site on Rt 45 about a mile south of Rt 173.

Here's a link to a Flickr set of the construction site taken at various time since last year. Latest 14 photos were taken today.

This project was featured on Chicago Tonight last year with Geoffrey Baer providing the details.

Here's a WBEZ article on the subject.

Forgot to mention that the organ for the new church was the one used at the Medinah Temple that was located at Wabash and Ohio, now a Bloomingdale's.

New photos (34) added today. Start on page 8 of the set.

I met the pastor and business manager of the parish today. Spent about an hour with the manager learning a lot about the project and the parish's current location, which is a farm on Rt 173 a bit east of Rt 45, a few miles from the "new" church. Saint Rita, Quigley and Barat College are all part of this very interesting story.
