Not ssure I spelled Baum correctly, but I remember going there in the 60's I think it was around Belmont and Central. As a kid they seemed to have so many interesting things there. I loved going there I always found something new and different.

There was one on Cicero, near Roscoe, now a post office. Another on the Southwest Side, on west 63rd. I was soooo young then!

I remember Advance sales on Milwaukee south of North ave. At the time it was where you went to buy appliances, clothes, pretty much everything. They were referred to as "Wholesale Houses" and there were a few around Belmont and central.

Another trivia bit, their official name was "Steinberg Baum" without the 'and'. Logo was an 'SB'.

I remember that place, Especially the somewhat BW/ Red color print sales paper that was supplied each weekend by the Sun-Times or Tribune. Plus I remember the Advance Sales Co on N.Milwaukee, Which closed in 1975.

the exact S&B address on n. cicero was 3319 n cicero. it is a newer building that S&B built late '60s replacing an older smaller building at the same address.

after S&B went out-of-business the new 3319 building was bought by USPS and became the new location of their Irving Park post office which had been in the 3900 N. block of cicero previously (torn down mid-'80s). it remains so today.

a couple years ago the post office removed and replaced some old signage of theirs on the cicero side, and when they did they revealed the old steinberg & baum signage that was then still underneath it
