Palermo's, hands down. Only the one on 63rd and Hamlin. I know the owner Frank, and business is still going great. I just had some last week, and it is still the reason why I was obese as a child!

Home Run Inn was the best in the 1960s. It was so good they had to commercialize it. If you go to 31st Street, it's still the same. If you have it frozen, it's not.

Oh man, does this take me back. I grew up a block from Vito & Nick's...lived on their stuff. Also ordered from the old Luigi's a lot. Occasionally hit Angie's on Pulaski. Palermo's on 63rd was a place we'd go after visiting my grandparents, and we had neighbors who waitressed at Little Joe's...on Archer, I think? We were there a lot, too.

We were definitely a pizza family!

Had a chance to go back to the old 'hood recently to grab some V&N...still as great as I remember.

I forgot about the food at Laredo...our parents used to sign us up for bowling leagues all the time to get us out of the house. Good times.

Hey Bob,

I can still remember the pizza at the Laredo Lanes restaurant...it was that good! And what about those Luigi's beef sandwiches in addition to the great pizza?(gone forever, it makes a grown man cry sob sob) And what about the great hamburgers and french donuts at goofy's right down the street?

If you remember Laredo Lanes and Goofy's how about Billy's diner on the other side of SW Hwy ? Not known for Pizza but Great Breakfast Stop ! It wasn't too far from the Twin Oaks Dairy's Loading station.

Palermo's on 63rd St. has my vote too. I remember when they moved to that location & what a big deal it was with the full dining room as previously at the other location (I think also on 63rd, but near Western) was many take out with a few tables.

It was Red Sullivan. I believe he opened a lot of the thin crust places on the SW side--Onesti's, Obbie's, and one or two more. He sold them after successfully managing them for years. He held on to the 71st location, with mostly Mrs. Sullivan there the last few years that he owned it. Sold it to one of his long time employees. Not the same pie at all. Red also was co-owner of Mideo Video on 71st and Artesian in the 80's. I believe his partner was Tom Davern who owned the 67th and California 7-11 and Davern's Tavern.
If you want a still-authentic tasty thin like Onesti's go to Obbie's on ARcher Ave., near Harlem.

How about some great places that are long gone?
- Prego's (79th and Western?)
- Bill's Pizza Pub (71st and Kedzie)
- Bo's Pizza (59th and Kedzie)
- Reagle Beagle (59th, I think next to Lang Ice)
- Pager's Pub (71st and Rockwell)
- Barnaby's (79th and Pulaski)

Any more??
