As he sat back and began to reminisce. One of his memories included the time he fought with his best friend. No matter they remained best friends and even fishing ingbuddies. After contacting another friend he found out that his friend had moved to a different city and had since developed MS(Multiple Sclerosis). After his old friend answered the the phone, he asked him,"Do you want to fight?" A weakened voice replied, "No, I don't want to fight." After exchanging Old Times, he finally said good-by. Then, after thinking about it, he realized that his old friend spoke with an Irish Brogue. He knew his parents were Irish, but what the heck, he never talked this way before. He talked to one of his other friends and he said,"Yes,he was born in Ireland, but after all of the years of knowing him, he never noticed the Brogue. Perhaps the MS had brought it to the surface. The other friend then told him an interesting story. After living in Chicago for a few years, he was sent back to Ireland to live with an aunt because the Depression had set in and times were tough. Since economic conditions did not improve in Ireland, he returned to the U.S..While crossing the Atlantic he saw a frightful sight. The year was 1939 and a German U-Boat came to the surface. They sent a boarding party to search the ship in order to look for contraband;that is, war supplies. Since none were found, the German Commander sent them on.To this day I was told that he never forgot the number of the submarine that was painted on it. TomC
