Run a tunnel from Union Station, where it comes in from now, to the Clinton Stop on the Blue Line, and you've got it. I don't know if you could electrify it though as the line goes through the CN Schiller Park Yard, and touches the eastern side of the CN Bensenville Yard. I've always thought the rebuild of the Lake Street L was idiotic, with the Congress line just a few blocks away, and I've always felt the need for a rapid transit line paralleling Grand Avenue. The North Central line would be a natural for that considering it runs along the old Milwaukee Road right of way into Union Station. It would be nice if they had the width on the right of way to run a rapid transit line as on the Lake Street L west of Laramie.

Believe it or not, the CTA had contemplated cutting the Lake Street line into the Congress line, building a new elevated structure somewhere between 3200 W. and 4400 W., ramping down to the Congress tracks, and probably removing the structure from there to Wells. They had all sorts of other plans they discussed for the Congress line, which included either continuing to run CA&E trains downtown, or not. It became a moot point when the railroad was completely abandoned.
As for express L trains to O'Hare, well, who knows?

Speaking of the old Logan Square L, does anyone have any idea what the CRT's plan was to create a peripheral elevated line off of the old terminal? I read about it, but nobody had any details.

Anyone remember the "Super Transfer"? It was offered on Sundays at some point back in the late 70's (maybe early 80's) and with it you could ride any and all of the CTA for the entire 24 hours. There was a newspaper guy who bought one at midnight and tried to see how much of the system he could cover before it expired. I don't recall what that amounted to, but it made a great fluff story.

Oh, do I! I was going to IIT at the time, and I used to get one and joyride. It was the mid- to late-70's.
