the early 2000's is the last time I returned bottles for deposits here in Chicago.
it was Huber Bock beer sold in cases, at the cardinal liquor store on central ave

Huber Bock was great stuff and low-priced too, but in the past couple years I don't find it anymore (last sold in 6-packs non-returnable bottles). I know the brewery was bought out a few years ago by the typical bunch of pencil-pushers (accountants). So now I enjoy Shiner Bock nice and cold.
I used to wonder, particularly in later times, if law enforcement would consider opened (empty of course) returnable beer bottles in the back of my car that I was returning to the store for deposit as a law violation

Moga, if you were drinking before you went to the store to return the bottles, I sure that you might have had a problem. Years back I installed a beer tap in the kitchen of my house so I wouldn't have to deal with cans and bottles! LOL Those barrels were a pain in the butt though!

What I was thinking of of course was 'opened bottle of alcohol' in vehicle (it doesn't matter all the alcohol was already drunk), and there'd be many incriminating bottles

One of the ways a kid could make money in the 50's in the Back of the Yards and it was fun doing it.
